Dear Mom

I have been living in Canada for one year, I am so happy but my life here has been too hard, especially  at the beggining, because of the wheather is very very cold.

People from Canada are so serious, so they are different  as Costa Ricans.

Another trouble is the lenguage because  I don`t know any of the official lenguages of here ( English and French)

Even Though I have had many problems, I am happy, however I miss my family and the Costa Rican`s food.

ANIMAL INTELLIGENCE

What do you think about of some studies saying that animals can help us in people rehabilitation? Do you believe that an animal really can help us?

Well, it has been proven that due to their more developed abilities they can be used for therapy, like in children who have special problems or those who had an accident and they need a special treatment to rehabilitate and get back to their normal lives again or to get a better life dealing with that incapacity.

I believe in this kind of intelligence, I have seen this power in dolphins working with special children who before dealing with these animals, could not walk and then with a couple of sessions with these animals they started to put one foot in front of the other until they walked again. Also, some kids started speaking for the first time in their lives, which is pretty amazing. So, I can tell to those parents who don’t believe it, to go and try it because it’s the best medicine that their children can ever get

New Vocabulary

Many people in Costa Rica have a lot of responsabilities, maybe because of their job, and studies or problems with their relatives and friends. For that reason they suffer humor changes, irritability, fatigue and stress.
In the women`s case, they suffer from hormononal changes on top of it.

Other very common disease are related to mind problems, for example attention deficit disorden. Another problem is related to socializing with other people, this is a difficult situation because many of them became addited to pills, because the pills cause addiction.

My memories

I remember myself when I was younger. I had a happy family with two children  and my husband. I have had great jobs with a magnificent payment. I have traveled to many countries. I have known very importat people. I have finished two majors and I would like to study another one. Nowadays I have my own bussinees.

My Dreams

• As a child, I dreamt of working as a flight attendant. Every afternoon  I went near to the airport in order to see airplanes. For me it was easy to go there, because I live very near of it.                    

       

• As a teenager my wildest dream was traveling to the most beautiful places of the world. I have always  liked to meet people from other countries and to learn about their cultures. I liked reading information about nature in Costa Rica and other countries too.

• As an adult my dream is to be an exellent manager. I want to have my own bussines. First that all, I would  like to work as a flight attendant for some time because it's my dream. I love airplanes and I like to read, watch videos and search for information about them.

Dear Sir/Madam

First that  all, I would like to thank you for making us familiar with other cultures, especially because at ULACIT there are students and teachers from other countries.

However I have to admit I didn't like the last presentation for the following reasons:

• The activity didn't start at 5:00 pm as according to the program. It started 30 minutes later
• There were three activities according to the program, but at the end just one was showed
• Nobody gave us an explanation about the meaning of the Dragon in the Chinese culture

I hope you will continue with this kind of activities that are so important and entertaining, but  I think it is very important to get to know where, when and why certain costumes in a country began, and not just to show the tradition.

The influence of the media in societal values

What do you think about the influence of the media in our lives?

We have already asked this question to ourselves we have noticed advantages and disadvantages of the media's impact in our society. Our intention is to raise awareness and to prevent youth people  from making; the same mistakes as we have made.

Our society has changed. If you remember, just some years ago, there were less stereotypes than now, and the influence of national and international media was less noticeable.

For example the way of thinking of our youth has become superficial and materialistic because of violence, bad habits and fashion. The worst is the last one since  physical apperance has become too importat today, especially in youth. We have chosen fashion because of that; for that reason. We have chosen fashion because of that. For that reason, we are going to give an example:

The increase of diseases like bulimia and anorexia, has lead to the death of models and their "fans". The world of fashion has created stereotypes of the desirable skinny figure, and people live up to it with diets, exercice, cosmetic surgery and pills, while losing sight of what really matters our character.

Personal Information

My name is Cinthya, I am 23 years old.

I live with my parents and my brother, we have been living in Alajuela since 1989, when I was  3 years old. I have two dogs, one cat and one bird.

I study Business Administration because I would like to have my own business, besides  I like the different subjects of this major.

I am a frienddly person, I like to help other people and to share with others, I like animals a lot and nature in general.
